"These paintings are visual poems exploring interior realms of perception, and various ways of knowing and being. Each painting stands on its own with its own theme and story.
The paintings evolved as a group, though not one at a time in sequence, but almost simultaneously... parallel to each other, over a period of almost ten years. The themes range from human instincts, altered states of consciousness, the scientific process, aesthetics, symbology, mythology, desire, and the will to power." -RQ

Electromagnetic energy, the source of all light from microwaves to gamma-rays, expresses itself as both waves and particles, depending on how we want to measure it.
Zeus, the godhead of Olympus, disguised himself as a swan in order to seduce the fair Lydia.
The true nature of a fundamental aspect of our universe remains cloaked in a parodox. Our senses are seduced by a god playing hide and seek.

We experience our world indirectly through our senses.
Light images are focused onto our retina, upside-down, then processed as chemical energy by the neurons in our brains visual centers.

In the blue dusk a hawk soars overhead, watching us from the sky.
What does she see? Does she see us looking up at her?
Where does the realm of consciousness lie?
Where is the blue of the sky?

The fundamental structure of the material world is indeterminant at the quantum level. However, its statistically random dance emerges from the quantum-foam and gives rise to a world of order, governed by physical laws of conservation, measurable via our senses, expressed through mathematics, music, and color. Revealed and confirmed by the scientific process.
Much to Einstein's likely disappointment, the fundamental structure of matter and energy appears to be the result of a dice game being played in the basement of the courthouse.

Human instinct - desire, fear, the will to power, to explore, to understand - lies at the heart of culture: art, science, philosophy, and civilization.

Extending our vision, our understanding of the world around us and of our universe with the use of tools and technology is the modus operandi of science and industry.
The extension of our vision and experience of the worlds behind this one with the use of the tools and technologies of prayer, meditation, fasting, ritual, dance, psychotropics, psychosis, trauma, and grace is the burden of the shaman, the artist, the healer, the prophet, the mystic, and the madman.

To know: 1. To perceive directly with the mind or senses. 2. To believe to be true.
Knowledge: 1. Understanding acquired through experience. 2. Acquaintance with or understanding of a science, art, or technique. 3. The condition of being aware. 4. The range of one's understanding.

'Martian Chronicle'
             Mixed-media painting on panel, 36" x 48"

I can remember as a child the "Red" Sputnik, in black and white.
When I was a teen I saw the Apollo program 'in living color,' with its successes and tragedies, land a human on the pale yellow moon in a deep, dark purple night's sky.
     I came of age with a blue-marble Earth-rise over the silver-gray lunar surface, floating in black-indigo space-time.
By my mid-century I have shared in the experience of seeing the horizon of a crimson other-world, in the heavens of our solar/star system.
This painting must be about mythology.
