This ceiling mural was painted in the formal dining room of a beautiful estate, designed and built by architect Aleck Dugally, in Hacienda Heights, California. The mural incorporates the sloped rise of the ceiling panel and a chandelier (not shown).
The decorative design elements include a faux-marble field with border motifs of a Spanish/Moorish influence. We utilized the negative space as an organizing influence, and as a way of incorporating the ceiling-slope.
"Mural painting by definition is large-scale work, and ceiling-murals can be very difficult, both physically and logistically. For these reasons it is not uncommon for the projects to be a collaborative effort between two or more artists. This project gave me the opportunity to work with one of the most talented muralists I have ever had the pleasure of collaborating with, and I have worked with some of the best! Lawrence Linkus and I go waaaay back and have collaborated on many, many projects together. Teamwork and a good-natured competitive spirit can help to bring out the best, and many times the most creative work. 'Link' is now living and working in charming Ojai, California.
I wish him all the best and continued success! I look forward to our next project together."-RQ
