Faux painting is the decorative treatment of a surface antiqued,
distressed, painted, gilded, glazed, stained, etc. Almost any surface can be adorned with simulated marbles,
granites, malachites, semi-precious stones, or exotic woods; even tea and coffee stains, rusts,
and oxidized metallics, dripped, chipped, and crackled paints; and fantasy finishes and textures:
ragged, rolled, silicated, bleached, and more.

"Faux painting is a specific type of 'trompe l'oeil' painting.
'Faux' is a french word meaning 'false' or 'deceitful.'
In painting circles, these are highly prized attributes,
but only when referring to the effect or appearance of a painted surface." -RQ
