This mural was painted for the entry of a beautiful home in the friendly hills of Whittier, California.
The "trompe l'oeil" portal is painted to look like a stone verandah with columns and panels to match the paneling of the entry.
A decorative border motif book-ends the portal-mural and anchors the whole scene into the hallway.
The mural is painted on a curved alcove wall and incorporates two existing wall-sconces and an architectural quarter-dome.

The portal opens onto a garden with stone stair-cases and a fountain.
The formal garden has flowers- irises, tulips, and roses; and two large garden vessels.

"The challenge of this project was to render the architecture in perspective on the
interior of a curved, half-barrel wall.
I used a separate two-point perspective for each of the painted columns,
with one point near the center of the mural
and the other point sighted from the entry-way, about 10' from the mural on center,
to about 20' down the hall, on either side of the mural.
Solving this kind of visual problem is what makes mural painting so enjoyable
and challenging for me."
"I would like to thank the creative and talented interior designer Helena Zavou
for considering the services of my studio to design and execute this mural for her
client's home."
